Alternatives · fleet telematics

A Samsara alternative that keeps the hardware you already bought.

This one is usually not a replacement at all. Samsara and Verizon Connect are strong telematics platforms, and the trackers in your vehicles are fine. What tends to be missing is everything that happens after the location data arrives: maintenance, assignments, costs and dispatch decisions, which live in three other places.

First, the honest part

When you should keep paying Samsara.

We would rather tell you this on a first call than sell you a platform you did not need. If any of these describe you, staying put is the right call.

  • You mainly need compliance. ELD, HOS and DVIR are regulated, well solved by the incumbents, and not something to rebuild.
  • Your fleet is small enough that the per-vehicle bill is not yet a real number.
  • You use their safety and dashcam programs seriously. That is hardware plus a review workflow, and it is a large thing to take on.

When people do move, this is usually why.

The fleet data sits in a portal, alone

Locations in one tool, maintenance in a spreadsheet, assignments in somebody's head. The tracker portal shows you where a truck is but not what it costs you.

Maintenance is reactive

Service happens when something breaks on the road, which is the most expensive possible moment for it to happen.

Per-vehicle pricing compounds

Every truck you add increases the bill on a fixed schedule, whether or not that truck generates proportionally more value.

Nobody can say what a stop costs

Fuel, service and utilization by vehicle is the number that decides which trucks earn and which drain, and it usually lives nowhere.

How the money is shaped.

Pricing models rather than figures. Current numbers are Samsara's to quote and they change; what rarely changes is what the bill is tied to.

Samsara

Per vehicle, per month, on a contract term. Predictable, and it compounds directly with fleet growth.

GO Build Labs

One monthly fee for the platform. We build on the tracker APIs you already pay for, so this generally sits alongside a reduced telematics plan rather than replacing it outright.

What we build instead.

Questions people ask before switching.

Do we have to rip out our trackers?

No, and we would advise against it. Most trackers have APIs and we build on the hardware you already own. The point is putting that feed next to maintenance, assignments and costs, which the tracker portal alone does not do.

What about ELD and hours-of-service compliance?

Keep it where it is. Compliance is regulated, well served by the incumbents, and a poor candidate for custom work. We build the operational layer and leave the compliance layer alone.

Can drivers use it without training?

That is the design bar. Today's stops, one-tap status, photo proof of delivery. If a driver can use a phone camera they can run their day in it.

What stops us ending up locked into you instead?

The code is yours from the first commit, in a repository on your account, with the infrastructure in your name. If you leave, you take all of it and hire whoever you like. That is the actual difference between owning software and renting it, and it is the reason the lock-in argument does not just move addresses.
