Common questions
Our old system has years of data in it. What happens to that?
All of it comes with you. We plan how to move it over as part of the build from the start, and we'll usually run the old and new systems side by side for a while. Nothing gets lost, and nobody has to switch everything over on one terrifying Monday morning.
Can you work with a system nobody documented?
Yes, and that's the normal case. Almost nothing we inherit has usable documentation. We start with a short paid discovery, sitting with the people who use the system and walking through what they actually do with it. The plan comes out of that, rather than out of a document someone wrote years ago and stopped updating.
Why not just buy an off-the-shelf replacement?
If one fits, buy it. We'll tell you so, and we've told people so before. Custom software makes sense in three situations: your process really is unusual, the workarounds needed to fit a packaged product cost more than the product does, or per-seat pricing has crept up past what the thing is worth to you.
We're on Salesforce and it costs a fortune. Is replacing it realistic?
Often, yes. The usual reason it costs a fortune is that you're paying for a platform designed for a sales organization many times your size. The honest test is what your team really uses. If it's a handful of record types, some custom fields and a few reports, that's a build, and not a large one. But if you've connected it to lots of other systems and built a lot of admin work around it, the switching cost can easily exceed the savings, and we'll say so rather than sell you the project.
